The Sri Lanka Army has re-launched its website giving it a much-needed
face-lift aimed at countering malicious and distorted reports, the
Army commander said. "The Army website would definitely pose
a challenge to wrong, malicious and distorted reports of our adversaries
who would be ready to go to any extent to tarnish the Army's image,"
said Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka, Army commander at the re-launch on
Friday.
The
website, accessible on www.army.lk was founded in 2001 as the first
military web-base. The Army's media unit headed by military spokesman
Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe contributed toward the revamp along with
assistance from a U.S.-based web company, said Sisira Wijesinghe,
long-standing advisor of the unit. Re-designed with fresh graphics,
location maps and a variety of new information links, the web site
promises easy access to its daily situation report.
A notable
feature is that the report will also be accessible in Sinhala.Mr.
Wijesinghe promised a Tamil version will also be available shortly.
"I believe, the new website with its accelerated supply of
information will be able to also effectively counter any misinformation
in future," Army chief Fonseka said.
