CEB
staff appeal to minister over transfer
Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) employees attached to Parliament
have appealed to Power and Energy Minister John Seneviratne to order
an inquiry into the transfer of the Electrical Superintendent attached
to the Legislature over an incident involving several Parliament
staff members watching a cricket match on a television set kept
in the room allocated to CEB staff.
The
Electrical Superintendent was transferred out and another person
appointed in his place early last week following the incident which
took place two weeks ago.
The
problem started when the Coordinating Engineer of Parliament found
some Parliament staff members watching the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh
test match in the CEB staff members’ room and sent a letter
to the Electrical Superintendent questioning why he was allowing
everyone to watch TV in the room.
The
matter got aggravated when the CEB official pasted the letter on
the door of the room to keep others informed that they were not
welcome to watch TV there anymore. This angered the Engineer who
removed the TV from the room.
Later
the CEB men were also accused of playing carrom during work hours.
Many employees were angered by the move to remove the previous superintendent
for no valid reason and made the appeal to the Minister.
The CEB men who are on duty round the clock on shift basis are allocated
a separate control room along with a TV due to the nature of their
work.
