Conflict
resolution expert at Peace Secretariat
The newly appointed deputy Secretary General of the Government's
Peace Secretariat Ketheshwaran Loganathan, says his task won't be
easy but he's up to the challenge.
"Although
I'm honoured to have been appointed to the post, I see it more as
a challenge than a profession," Mr. Loganathan told The Sunday
Times.
"A challenge in the context of the troubled times that the
peace process is going through," he said.
He
assumed duties on Wednesday at the Secretariat Coordinating the
Peace Process (SCOPP) after resigning from the Board of Directors
of the Centre for Policy Alternatives (CPA) and as the head of its
Peace and Conflict Analysis Unit.
He
fills the No. 2 position which fell vacant after Dr. John Gooneratne
was elevated to the position of Secretary General on December 1.
Mr. Loganathan has been previously interacting with SCOPP as a member
of civil society, particularly as a member of the Civil Society
Committee of the National Advisory Council for Peace and Reconciliation.
"I
am somewhat familiar with the SCOPP environment and workings and
therefore I do not expect to take too much time settling-down,"
he said.
Mr. Loganathan was a member of the Tamil delegation at the Thimpu
Peace Talks of 1985 and played a role in subsequent initiatives
leading to the Indo-Lanka Accord of 1987.
