SL Rupavahini states
Referring to an item carried in the Odds and Ends column of The Sunday Times of March 26, under the caption “Dollars for What?” which refers to Rupavahini Chairman Newton Guneratne taking a sum of US$ 3,000 for the recent Geneva peace talks, the Corporation has said:


“First of all we wish to bring to your notice that the facts and figures highlighted in the news report have been erroneously stated. The Chairman was paid an allowance of US$1725 being accommodation, incidental and cash allowance to meet the expenses on his stay as stipulated in the PA circulars for foreign travel.

However on his arrival in Geneva as he found that the media unit had been provided with accommodation by the Government. US$1100 was returned by the Chairman on his return. (Receipt No.2752 dated 01.03.2006). No other allowance was paid to the Chairman for hiring of camera.US$1000 was paid to D.M.V.B Dissanayake, Assistant Director/English News (a crew member), as a special contingency allowance which was settled in full on his return, as it was unutilised. (Receipt No.2741 dated 28.02.2006).
