Austrian
FM’s services honoured
President Mahinda Rajapaksa expressed his gratitude and appreciation
to Austrian Foreign Minister Dr. Ursula Plassnik who is the current
president of the European Union, for the services rendered by the
Government and the people of Austria to rebuild the lives of Sri
Lankans affected by the tsunami disaster. In a letter the President
expressed his gratitude to Dr. Plassnik for her leadership and philanthropic
initiatives to rebuild the lives of Sri Lankans who were affected
by the December 2004 catastrophe.
The
President also sent his appreciation for the assistance extended
by the Government of Austria for establishing the Ruhuna-Austria
School of Tourism and Hotel Management in the south of Sri Lanka.
Austria
is one of the countries that have given maximum support for a number
of projects in housing, schools, playgrounds and medical aid.
In
appreciation of Dr. Plassnik’s humanitarian service to Sri
Lanka, the Southern Provincial Council and Southern Province Governor
Kingsley T.Wickramaratne have arranged a simple ceremony along with
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador in Austria Mrs.Aruni Wijewardene, where
an engraved plaque for service of distinction will be awarded to
Dr. Plassnik on April 7 at the Austrian Foreign Ministry in Vienna.
Housing
Minister Ms. Ferial Ashraff and Cultural Affairs and National Heritage
Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena are due to be present on this
occasion.
