North
Sails to invest $2.5 m in plant
Backed by the peace initiative and a strong investment drive, North
Sails Ltd has invested in a new $2.5 million factory at Biyagama,
its second in the same zone, and due to open on May 15.
The
American company, which started operations at Biyagama 10 years
ago in Sri Lanka, produces sails, sail bags, boat covers and sail
accessories.
“All are manufactured using premium fabrics from North Cloth
as well as other quality suppliers. All North cruising products
are built to last,” an industry source said.
He
said the new factory will use three dimensional laminated sails
(3DL), a revolutionary sail making technology to manufacture sails.
North Sails introduced 3DL in 1992, which stretches less for its
weight.
a
revolutionary sail making technology. Compared to a traditional
sail assembled from panels of flat sailcloth, a 3DL sail stretches
less for its weight, holds its shape over a wider wind range and
retains its designed shape longer,” the industry source said.
