security personnel killed in two claymore blasts yesterday
Seven security forces personnel were killed in two claymore mine
attacks yesterday in Vavuniya and Trincomalee. In the first incident
around 12.55 p.m., a claymore mine ripped a bus carrying troops
in Vavuniya, killing five soldiers and wounding 10.
The
incident took place when the claymore mine fitted to a tractor was
triggered off opposite an army base as the bus carrying a group
of soldiers was passing by, Police said.
The
wounded soldiers were admitted to Anuradhapura and the Colombo National
Hospital for treatment. In the other incident at Kappalthurai in
Trincomalee, two Air Force personnel were killed and one was injured
when suspected LTTE cadres triggered a claymore mine around 7.20
p.m.
In
a separate incident an LTTE cadre and a civilian were killed in
a claymore mine blast in Mannar yesterday. Meanwhile, army recovered
two claymore mines in Sathrukondan in Batticaloa yesterday morning.
