CCITD
calls for compensation
From Sinniah Gurunathan, Trincomalee correspondent
The Chamber of Commerce and Industries of the Trincomalee district
(CCITD) has condemned Wednesday’s bomb explosion and violence
against the business community. About 20 shops and business establishments
and several vehicles were burnt down.
In
a statement, the CCITD has appealed to the government to provide
adequate relief and compensation to the n
xt
of kin of the people who died in the incidents. The CCITD said preplanned
violence of this nature would affect the economy of the country
and would dissuade investors coming to the region. Furthermore it
would disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the area, the statement
said.
The
CCITD expressed its deepest condolences to relatives of the dead
and injured and also to the members of the business community who
were affected.
