BOI
on ‘excess expats’ query
The Board of Investment (BOI) have written to BOI firms, requesting
them to reduce their expatriate staff and employ locals.
“We
found that certain companies were employing foreigners in excess
of the requirement and we have sent them letters requesting them
to reduce the expatriate staff,” Lakshman R. Watawala, Chairman
BOI told The Sunday Times FT. When queried about the ‘requirement’
of staff, he said that it is ‘on a case by case basis’.
“At
present we do not have a stipulated requirement as such, but we
are looking at it on a case by case basis.” Watawala said
that the BOI will come out with a set of stipulations soon. “We
will release some stipulations with regard to expatriate staff and
at present we are assessing this station,” he said.
