Corrupt
officials face painful death: CJ
Chief Justice Sarath N Silva yesterday launched a scathing attack
on some police, customs, Registrar of Motor Vehicle officers and
some lawyers, saying they were highly corrupt, he had no faith in
them and they would die after prolonged agony.
Addressing
the Court Registrars’ annual general meeting in Colombo, Mr.
Silva said police officers were a useless lot and as Chief Justice
he wanted to protect himself from the police rather than getting
their protection.
“The
Police ask whether I want their protection but I say no. I have
to be protected from them. That is why I don’t get their security.
I know them very well as I have been in my profession for 38 years,”
he said.
The
Chief Justice also said his opinion was the same with regard to
some people who work in the RMV and the Customs. “Such people
won’t have a peaceful death. Some of them commit suicide.”
He
said that it was not only those who were involved in corruption
who would suffer but their children also would face the consequences.
Mr. Silva pointed out that there were also a section of lawyers
who fell into this category. He said he could even name them.
