The Mercury Institute of Management is an undoubted leader in CIMA-based
education in the city. Established in December 2001, the Institute
has progressed by leaps and bounds over the past four years.
Within the short span of three years the Institute coveted the prestigious
Quality Partner accreditation from CIMA (Chartered Institute of
Management Accountants), UK, thus being the youngest Institute to
have gained this recognition and status.
The panel of lecturers comprising qualified and experienced professionals
in the field of Financial and Management Accounting, which is the
strength of Mercury, has placed the Institute in an enviable position
in today’s competitive world.
The pass rate at Mercury is something to crow about. It is the criteria
on which standards are measured when selecting an Institute for
studies. Each year and at each examination the pass rates have kept
soaring, and this speaks volumes for the excellent examination-focused
coaching provided by the Institute. The pass rates for consecutive
sessions have been well above the Sri Lankan pass rate, which is
a noteworthy achievement by any standard.
The student population at Mercury has been the backbone of the Institute
from its inception. More than 90% of the students have been at Mercury
from Foundation to Final Level. The Institute in turn has delivered
the high standards expected by the discerning students in all aspects
from studies to facilities.
The holistic approach of the Institute does not cease with studies
alone. The Institute provides guidance and counselling throughout
the student career. Interaction between student and lecturer is
highly developed and much appreciated by the students.
The commitment of Mercury to provide the best in tuition, the comprehensive
coverage of syllabus, the thorough revision programme coupled with
mock examinations – all these factors have placed the Institute
as the preferred place for CIMA Education. Today CIMA represents
more than 85,000 students and 65,000 members in 156 countries. In
Sri Lanka the CIMA student population exceeds 11,000. The globally
recognised reputation and the flexibility of career options have
made CIMA the first choice for those in pursuit of Financial and
Management Qualifications.
The Foundation Level now termed the Certificate in Business Accounting,
apart from being a qualification in its own right, serves as the
stepping stone towards the CIMA Professional Qualification. Successful
completion of five subjects through a Computer- Based Assessment
Examination leads the student to the Professional Level, which is
spread out to Managerial and Strategic Levels.
These two levels are made up of three core learning pillars, namely
Management Accounting, Business Management and Financial Management.
The Managerial Level consists of six papers, which provide the expertise
in Management Accounting Business and Financial Management.
The Strategic Level comprising three subjects focuses on Key Strategic
Issues and Business Practices. The three papers build on the contents
within the relevant pillars at the Managerial Level. The TOPCIMA
is the Final Assessment based upon a real case study, which is set
within a simulated business content. On successful completion of
TOPCIMA and on approval of the practical experience, the student
gains the highly valued ACMA status.
The panel of lecturers at Mercury have gone through intensive studies
and innovative procedures to enable students to fit into the curriculum
of studies, following the changes that have occurred in the syllabus
structure of CIMA professional qualifications from the year 2005.
Furthermore, with new concepts put in place for 2006 for the Certificate
in Business Accounting Level, the Institute is fully geared to place
the students at ease and provide all guidance to follow lectures
with confidence.
CIMA at Mercury is dedicated coaching coupled with guidance and
care. It is moulding the student as the all important professional
of the morrow. It is ensuring that today’s student is the much sought
after employee of the future.
