SLBC
beaming from Buddha Gaya this Vesak
Special programmes have been lined up by the Sri Lanka Broadcasting
Corporation (SLBC) from Buddha Gaya, India, to mark the 2550 Buddha
Jayanthi celebrations. These programmes are to be broadcast from
May 11 to 13.
A significant
feature of these live programmes is that they will cover several
historical places of religious importance in Buddha Gaya which have
been visited by Lord Buddha, but which have not being featured so
far by any of the electronic media. The broadcasts will cover a
250,000 pahan pooja ceremony from the Sri Maha Bodiya in Buddha
Gaya, to bestow blessings on the President and the people of Sri
Lanka.
For
the first time devotees in Sri Lanka will get the opportunity to
listen to live sermons which will be broadcast from Kururata. Kururata,
in New Delhi is the place where Buddha preached the Satipattana
Soothraya. Kururata is also the domain of the Kapilavastu relics.
There
will be a live broadcast from the Mulagandakuti Vihara while several
programmes from places of importance in Buddha’s life such
as Neranjana and Senani Gama will also be broadcast from time to
time.
Special
Dhamma discussions based on Buddha’s preachings and sermons
as well as Buddha poojas, and a discussion on the services rendered
by the late Anagarika Dharmapala are among the main highlights of
the SLBC’s special Buddha Jayanthi programme throughout the
Vesak period.
Further details on Buddha Jayanthi celebration programmes will be
available on SLBC’s website www.slbc.lk
