Prabha
won’t meet Akashi
A
request by the Japanese government for its special envoy Yasushi
Akashi to meet the LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran has been turned
down, a spokesman said.
Mr.
Akashi before arriving in Colombo had made the request for the meeting
with the LTTE chief, but the LTTE had informed him that he could
only meet with their political wing leader, S.P. Thamilselvan. LTTE
spokesman Daya Master told The Sunday Times yesterday that Mr Akashi
could visit Kilinochchi on Tuesday for the meeting with Mr. Thamilselvan
if required.
Mr.
Akashi is on a four-day visit to Sri Lanka to discuss with the government
and other parties the current crisis in the peace process. He is
due to meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Foreign Minister Mangala
Samaraweera, Chief government negotiator Minister Nimal Siripala
de Silva and others.
