Councillors on study tour of Philippines, Malaysia

A nine-member team of Central Provincial Councillors including the
Chief Secretary were due to leave on an educational tour of the
Philippines and Malaysia on Saturday night, according Central Provincial
Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa.
But
other members from both the governing and opposition parties were
against the tour saying that the expenses would eat into Council
finances. But according to the Governor Council money would not
be spent on the tour, save the air fares of the nine Councillors.
Among
those on the tour are Council Chairman, W.M. Yasamanna, D. Angammana
and Mahinda Abeykoon of the UPFA, Opposition Leader W. Aluvihare,
V. Radhakrishnan of the Labour Congress, JVPer G. Dissanayake, C.
Illapperuma and W.G. Ranasinghe of the UNP along with Provincial
Secretary P.G. Amarakone.
They
received government approval for a ten-day outing for which selection
was on the basis of seniority and those not who had not enjoyed
any foreign trips so far, said Mr. Kobbekaduwa.
