Controversy
over CPC members trip
By J.A.L.Jayasinghe
A group of nine consisting of the Chief Secretary and eight members
of the Central Provincial council were due to leave on an educational
tour to the Philipines and Malaysia on Saturday night, according
to Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa.
Both
the governing party and the opposition say the trip would incur
expenses from council finances, but according to the governor, no
council money would be spent on the tour save the air fares of the
nine persons.
Those
going on the educational tour are Chairman W.M.Yasamana (UPFA),
Opposition leader W. Aluvihare, V. Radhakrishnan of the Labour Congress
Party, D. Angammana, and Mahinda Abeykoon (UPFA), G. Dissanayake
(JVP), C. Illapperuma (UNP), W.G. Ranasinghe and Chief Secretary
P.G. Amarakone.
According to Mr. Kobbekaduwa they received Government approval for
a ten-day outing for which selection was on the basis of seniority
and not having gone on a foreign trip so far.
