Amana refurbishes Children’s
Ward
As part of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
project the Amana Group recently refurbished the children’s
ward, 15B of the Colombo South Teaching Hospital, Kalubowila.
It was funded entirely by the Amana Children’s Charity Fund
set up in 2005 to support the welfare and development of underprivileged
and disabled children in the country in education, nourishment,
healthcare and rehabilitation.
The Group comprising, Amana Investments Limited, Amana Takaful Insurance,
Amana Capital Ltd, Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd and IGL Lanka Ltd
picked “Children our future” as the theme for its work,
according to an official statement.

The refurbished ward was handed over to hospital
authorities amidst a distinguished gathering of guests, which included
Prof. Narada Warnasuriya, Dr. Deepthi Samarage, Consultant Paediatricians
of the Hospital, Dr Dulani Gunasekera, Dr Guwani Liyanage, Dr Karim,
Faizal Salieh, Managing Director of Amana, Ishrat Rauff, CEO of
Amana Capital, hospital staff, members attached to the ward, staff
members of the Amana Group and members of the Young Muslim Women’s
League (YMWL).
The Amana Charity Fund will maintain this ward on an annual basis.
The YMWL worked with Amana to provide a variety of children’s
toys and playthings for the play area at the ward.
Speaking at the ceremony, Amana MD Mr. Salieh said: “Hospitals
are not the best place for people to spend time, but we hope that
this refurbishment project will provide a pleasant environment for
children receiving medical care in this ward.”
The hospital’s chief Consultant Pediatrician, Prof Warnasuriya
said: “We are grateful to Amana for having come forward to
assist us in this way. This project is a fine example of private-public
partnership in non-profit healthcare services for the benefit of
the poorer segments of our society.”
