‘Sulanga’
wins Houston Award
Director Benette Ratnayake's latest film 'Sulanga'
had been awarded the Silver Remi Award at the Houston International
Film Festival.
Screened in the competitive section along with fifty films representing
thirty countries, Benette's film was adjudged for the award.
Earlier 'Sulanga' competed at 39th Indian Film Festival, Dhaka International
Film Festival and screened at number of International film festivals
including Cairo IFF, Calcutta IFF, Kerala IFF Montreal IFF in Canada,
Rio de Janeiro IFF in Brazil and Asia Pacific IFF in Berlin and
Cleveland IFF in America.
Sulanga is the second direction of Benette Ratnayake who directed
the both locally and internationally awarded Aswesuma (The Compensation).
The film revolves around four women from different social categories
and a professor and it shows how different people quest for love
and happiness.
The main roles are played by Sanath Gunathilake, Dilhani Ekanayake,
Chandani Seneviratne, Palitha Silva, Sriyani Amarasena, Roger Seneviratne,
Rangana Premaratne Sathya Erandathi Ratnayake and Udara Ratnayake.
B. Wishwanath is the cinematographer while Lal Herendranath-art
director, Ravindra Guruge- editor and Ranjith Wickremasinghe is
the art director.
