Calling all
wildlife photographers
Entries are now being received for the WNPS –
Wild Life Photographer 2006 contest launched on March 29 at the
Trans Asia Hotel. The Wild Life and Nature Protection Society of
Sri Lanka (WNPS) is conducting this event as an annual feature,
to give all keen nature photographers, both local and foreign, the
chance to compete for the prestigious title of “Wild Life
Photographer of the Year”.
The
title also carries with it a handsome cash prize of Rs. 100,000.
which the sponsors say is aimed at encouraging nature lovers to
shoot more images with this contest in mind. This they believe will
have a fall-out effect with more and more people taking up wild
life photography, thus increasing people’s love of wild life
and nature.
In the Junior Category, participants under the
age of 18 years will compete for the title of “Junior Wild
Life Photographer 2006”. This title carries a prize of Rs.
25,000.
The
closing date for entries is June 30, 2006, and entries are now accepted
at the WNPS Office, No. 86, Rajamalwatte Road, Battaramulla; Exposure
Colour Lab, No. 501, Union Place, Colombo 2; John Keells Head Office,
No. 130, Glennie Street, Colombo 2 and Nations Trust Bank, Dharmapala
Mawatha.
The prize giving and exhibition will be held at
the Harrold Peiris Gallery from September 21 onwards. Entry coupons
are available in the newspapers, or you can download your coupon
from the official website www.wildlifephotographer.lk.
The contest, while encouraging both local and overseas
contestants to participate, only accepts images of Sri Lankan wild
life and scenic places, thus promoting local wildlife and the beauty
of our island.
