Mobitel wins at SAARC Innovation Awards
Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel won the Voice & Data SAARC Innovation award for “Mobile Operator with Best Consumer Pull - Sri Lanka” presented at The Fifth Voice and Data CEO Conclave 2006, November 16-19, 2006, Colombo, amidst a distinguished gathering of senior telecom officials from the SAARC region.

Speaking at the award ceremony Sanjay Tiwari from JuxtConsult, Delhi, India, explained the criteria and methodology used in conducting the on-line survey across the seven SAARC countries. He went on to highlight that these awards were the voice of consumer awards, as at the end of the day the ultimate judge of any innovation is nobody else but the consumer of that product or service.
Ibrahim Ahmad, Group Editor, Voice & Data in presenting this prestigious award to Mobitel said that this award was in recognition of the services Mobitel rendered to the telecom industry of Sri Lanka in providing innovative products and services that are valued by the consumers.
Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel’s Chief Executive Officer, Suren J. Amarasekera, on receiving this prestigious award said, “The team at Mobitel had relentlessly pursued on customer centricity in all they do and that it was gratifying to know that the consumers in Sri Lanka had acknowledged our efforts in providing products and services that offer value to the consumers.”
The SAARC award winners of “Mobile Operator with Best Consumer Pull” in their respective countries went to Tata Teleservices of India; Warid Telecom of Pakistan; Banglalink of Bangladesh; Wataniya of Maldives; and Spice of Nepal. There were no awards to operators in Bhutan as there was only a single operator.
