Army chief to continue

Lt. Gen. Fonseka

Army Commander Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka has been given an extended term of one year by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the recommendation of Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Lt. Gen. Fonseka was due to leave for the United States yesterday. He is due to meet senior Pentagon and State Department officials next week.
