Obeysekera case: Expert confirms signatures were forged

By Teles Anandappa
The Indian forensic expert Prof. S. Chandrasekeran confirmed that the signatures in the alleged false deeds of gifts claiming the property of the late Fredrick Obeysekera were forged. In this case former Military Spokesman Colonel Sumedha Perera, Bandula Wijesinghe and former caretaker Sarath Wijewardena are charged with trying to claim the ancestral property of Fredrick Obeysekera by producing fraudulent documents.

When Senior State Counsel cross examined Professor Chandrasekera at the High Court he specifically stated that the alleged forged signatures were written and not signed and that when he compared them with the original signatures of Mr. Frederick Obeysekera, he detected the letter ‘k’ ended with a curved line in the original signatures, whereas in the alleged forged documents it did not show this feature and there was a similar difference in the letter ‘c’. Senior State Counsel S. Thurairajah appeared for the prosecution. Judge Rohini Walgama postponed hearing for December 13.
