In deep south-hidden talent aplenty – Opatha

“Sri Lanka Cricket has reached great heights. Thanks to the talented fledglings drawn from the rural districts”. Said Tony Opatha, Chairman of Opatha International Academy. The Academy held a coaching clinic in Hambantota district on November 14 at Weeraketiya for 450. The following day (Nov. 15) at Tangalle there was another camp for 250 for potential young cricketers.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has promised support for this humanitarian project, to this 2-day clinic for Under 13 and 15 boys. 20 from each group will be harnessed to undergo a five-year training camp at his international Academy. It will be handled by an experienced panel of coaches Lanka Fernando, Sujith Paranavitharne, Lakshman Ranasinghe, Trishan Nonis, Tuan Rahman, Roy Bishop, Manjula Rajakaruna, headed by Opatha., The 40- member squad are-keen and has the natural ability.
