Shelly turns 81

The doyen of Bloomfield C&AC, Shelley Wickremasinghe turns 81 today. Wickremasinghe who was a pioneer in the resurgence of the club in its transformation period from the mobile club situated at the Campbell Park to its present location.

From time to time there even were moves to oust them from this location, but Shelly and his band of dedicated men stood firm to thwart any such moves.

Hailing from the Kalutara District the Wickremasinghe’s are a household name in the area.. An engineer by profession, he is also astute administrator a sportsman and a promoter of sports.

At present he is leading a quiet life all by himself. Not in the best of health. Though his movements are restricted, he still contributes his mite for the less affluent in social activities. Speaking with emotion, he said; “It may be my last birthday. Life is uncertain, but death is certain.” - BW
