Loyola school - Negombo an emerging force
Loyola Negombo, a school that took to cricket just four years ago has made vast strides within a short period of time by winning two under-15 titles. They won the Division Four all island crown and the Gampaha District title this year.
Their captain is alrounder Hansana Fernando who is spoken of as a potential Sri Lanka bet.
Loyola Negombo caters to less privileged kids of Negombo and the school believes they would be able to field a senior team in three years time despite not even having a ground of their own.
“When it comes to playing cricket we have enough potential to challenge top schools in Colombo”, said the school’s principal Rev. Fr. Trevor Martin.
“The boys showed a lot of keenness and this has worked for us”, said Fr Martin.
Fr. Jayashantha Sovis is the sports co-ordinator, Dilhan Fernandopulle, the master in charge while Dinesh Ranatunga is the coach.
