I Know UK
On November 27, the British High Commissioner, Dominick Chilcott, presented the prizes to winners of the
'I Know UK' Art Competition about modern Britain. The prize giving was held at the High Commissioner's official residence.
This competition was launched in October, when the British High Commission invited some 60 schools randomly selected throughout Sri Lanka to take part in this Art Competition. A set of books and posters were sent to these schools.
The objective of this Art Competition was to teach children about Modern Britain, apart from just the Queen, Charles Dickens and so on.
Students with creative art talents were given the opportunity to win attractive prizes of art supplies and books about Britain by painting their impression of the United Kingdom. The students submitted a fantastic range of paintings with their thoughts on modern Britain.
Before presenting the prizes the High Commissioner spoke briefly on the subject of 'Modern Britain'. |
