Galkanda residents beware

The recent landslides have focused attention on the hill country and a serious situation in the Galkanda area of Haputale is said to have caused concern for traffic on the Colombo-Haputale Road.

“The area surrounding the old tea factory in the Galkanda Pradeshiya Sabha area appears to be a source of danger. We have warned the people in the area,” a Badulla District Secretariat official said.

Officials of the National Building Rehabilitation Organization are due to visit the area this week for an assessment of the situation.
