Barefoot bares all

“Bones and Brawn”, this year’s Barefoot exhibition at the Barefoot Art Gallery from December 18 to January 2, 2007 gives their in-house artists an opportunity to showcase their own personal creations using their chosen mediums – painting, photography, dress making, and fabric design, fabric banners and weaving.

At the core of all Barefoot’s products lies good design. The Barefoot team led by Barbara Sansoni and the in house designers – Jeremy Marjan (master dyer), Marie Gnanaraj, Preethi Hapuwatte Nilloufer Victoria and Shanuagh Aluvihare is managed by Dominic Sansoni (the brawn).

Jeremy – is Barefoot’s master dyer whose skill, precision and years of experience enable Barefoot to create their brilliantly coloured cloth.

Marie – trained under Barbara Sansoni, is today Barefoot’s principal designer in handloom weaving and is involved with special projects. She has developed her own special style in textured woven panels.

Preethi – began her training as a handloom woven textile designer under Barabara Sansoni and is currently Barefoot’s principal designer for the functional secondary products and toys. She is also a jewellery designer and artist.

Nilloufer - trained under Barbara Sansoni as a handloom woven textile designer but currently occupies the Weaving Manager’s role. She continues to create by using paints on different mediums such as paper and fabric.

Shanaugh - the new addition to Barefoot’s team of designers has been guided by Barbara and is a trained dressmaker.

Dominic – trained professionally as a photographer and continues to work in this medium creatively. He also trained under Barbara and is a gifted handloom designer but rarely has the opportunity as he is uses his bones and brawn daily to manage the whole Barefoot show.
