Buddhist Research Society, Red Cross hand over tsunami houses
The Red Cross Society in Singapore and the Buddhist Research Society
there will hand more than 150 newly-constructed houses together
with a new playground and a community hall to tsunami victims in
Singhapura, Maithreegama, Siribopura and Hambantota.
The handover will take place on Tuesday to coincide with the second
anniversary of Sri Lanka’s worst ever natural disaster which
killed 31,000 people. The completion of the housing project which
was supervised by the Bellanwila Raja Maha Vihara, is an initiative
taken by Ven. Bellanwila Dhammaratana Nayaka Thera, adviser to the
Buddhist Research Society of Singapore and Chief Incumbent, Bellanwila
Raja Maha Viharaya.
Agriculture Development Minister Chamal Rajapaksa will be the chief
guest at the ceremony. Recipients of the new houses are also to
be given furniture and other household items at the ceremony. |
