Charya steals
the limelight

The year 2006 golf calendar culminated with the Milo Junior Open age-group championship, concluded at the RCGC greens Model Farm Road. This time it was the turn of eight-year-old Charya Kannangara from Royal College to steal the limelight.
He won the Under-9 Bronze division with a gross score of 125. First runners up Zak Magala 152 and 2nd runners up Kavinda Mathew 169.
Charya hails from a golfing family. His grandmother Yvonne Abhayaratne was a former Sri Lanka national ladies champion.
Two other young prospects, in Sanjay Wettimuny and Binupa Wijesinghe have proved their mark at junior international level. Both are performing well in the big league. Sanjay won the Age Group 15 and 17 (championship division). Wijesinghe, won the Sri Lanka Milo Junior Open 2006. |
