Aney is it true? with nam
A silver a two Bronze?....no, they won more at Doha
Media people
This time Doha media contingent comprised some outsiders too. The grapewine learns that their job was to keep the Olympic Committee informed about what was happening in the media camp. At the same time they were also provided with all the facilities that the media people were given.
The privileged lot
While the others had to sweat it out to justify their stay in Doha, there were twenty people who were given the opportunity to on a 18-day shopping spree in Doha- courtesy the NOC. How do you like that?
Shopped and shopped and shopped…
Most of the officials who were at Doha had excess baggage at the end of the trip. So, the authorities made an arrangement to give them an extra 20kg more from the normal 20 KG baggage allowed. But ironically, some officials had over 80 kg’s of baggage. In a lighter-vein some said that those officials could have included in our weightlifting contingent.
Tick..tick..tick
A part of the huge contingent that made it to Doha, got their tickets on tick through the NOC. Now they are not to be found. As a result the NOC is now facing another huge problem.
Another minister’s son shows his colours
A son of a prominent Minister was there at the Asian Games Village as a part of the Youth Programme unit. Suddenly he had gone crying his eyes out his father after his trip back to their airport was delayed. Father in turn had berated the officials unmercifully.
Thrown Out
The kicking hilly billy who courts controversy, did it again. This time it was at the Asian Games. He along with some of good mates was ejected from a night club for unruly behaviour. If this is what he calls “setting an example for the youngsters”, Heaven help the odd shaped ball game.
Nice and high
Qatar is an Islamic country and they take a very dim view on the consumption of liquor. At Doha their security made sudden checks even on the rooms of the visiting athletes. Oh! Bligh me…..and the found the stuff in the rooms of some Sri Lankan athletes which included a ‘super star’ female athlete.
The sniveling man
He had no official status there. But, he is a ‘big wig’ in the sports ministry. At the same time his son was also getting married. So just to get the NOC stipend which is given for the trip, he went for just four days and came back and said that he never made the trip.
Now its body building
Former presidents of the Sri Lanka Body Building Federation Chandana Aluthge and Anura Fernando and present vice-president Ranjith Perera has filed an objection against the incumbent board of office bearers saying that it has no authority.
They have cited among other matters that the accounts of the federation have not been audited, creating an environment in which the federation failed to gain international recognition and reproaching the general secretary of the South Asian Body Building Federation as reasons.
The ministry, in response to this objection, called the parties concerned for an inquiry on December 19th but they were not present.
