How I spent New Year's Day
Under 9 years
On New Year's day, I got up early in the morning in a happy mood, listening to fire crackers. I prayed to God to give us peace. I wished my family members a 'Happy New Year'.
I ate the delicious milk rice that my mother made for my breakfast. We planted a mango tree in our garden.
In the evening, we went to the beach. There we waded in the water and collected beautiful sea shells. We saw the sun setting in the west like a red ball.
At the end of the day I determined to do my studies well. That is how I spent my New Year's day.

Growing up
I look at my newborn cousins,
Cute, cuddly and blooming.
I was once so little,
I was rosy-cheeked and crawling.
I look at my elder sister,
In her twenty-something and pretty.
After finishing school I'll be like her,
Twenty-something and witty.
I look at my loving mother,
Hard-working, loving but stern.
I'll come to that age, but to
work that fast
I will have to learn.
Dear old grandma's over there,
She's wrinkled, kind and sweet.
One fine day I'll be that old,
'Tis sad, but still pretty neat!

My New Year Resolutions
9 - 12 years
Everyone in the New Year has New Year resolutions. I have my New Year resolutions too.
The first one is to do well in my studies. Although I have become third in my class, next time I'll try to get a better position.
The other one is to drink more milk. I'm not fair, but my mother says that if you drink a lot of milk you will become fair.
My third New Year resolution is being forward. Regularly, I'm really shy.
The last and best resolution is to have peace with my friends in all religions, so I can at least help a little to have peace in Sri Lanka.
I hope that all my New Year resolutions would be fulfilled successfully.
