Foreign Swimmers expected at Kinross sea swim

“The much looked forward to 42nd Kinross six-mile Sea Swim will be staged on March 18 amid pomp and pageantry”, said Sheriff Abdul Rahuman, Chairman organising committee. Swimmers especially from the SAF region are expected to take part. This grueling sea swim will attract some of the best long distance swimmers drawn from the Southern region – (Ambalangoda/Balapitiya). The competition is open for male and female swimmers who are over 15 years of age.

The local swimmers should be registered with the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLSAU). To be eligible to take part in the Kinross Sea Swim. They must be registered with the SLSAU and have taken part in the annual SLSAU 2-mile Sea swim or in a 2-mile sea swim. Registered with the controlling body during the past three years and finished within 70 minutes. The duration for the Kinross Swim is 4 hours and 30 minutes.

Since the inception in 1941, the Kinross Swimming and Life Saving Club have done yeoman service for the promotion and development of aqua sports in the country besides being affiliated to the NAASU- the Royal Life Saving Society of the United Kingdom. Its head quarters at Station Road, Wellawatte has been a rendezvous for the Sunday swimmers to swim at leisure.
At present aqua sports has spread its wings far and wide among the schools like Ananda, Trinity, Thurstan etc. (newcomers) have been making their mark.

The girls’ schools from Kandy played a dominant role in last year’s junior nationals besides St. Bridget’s, Visaka, Bishop’s and Ladies’.
