‘Purahanda Kaluwara’ today on Sirasa TV
Prasanna Vithanage's internationally award winning Purahanda Kaluwara (Death on A Full Moon Day) will be telecast at 12.00 noon on Sirasa TV on January 28.
The film telecast comes in the film festival 'Joe in retrospect', the festival to honour veteran actor Joe Abeywickrema screened on Sirasa.
The controversy ridden fourth direction by Prasanna Vithanage, the film won the Grand Prix at the Amiens Film Festival and Best Actor award for Joe at the Singapore International Film Festival.
Initially banned by the government of Sri Lanka, it was subsequently released when the long drawn out court case was resolved between Vithanage and the State.
'Purahanda Kaluwara' has since become one of the most successful films in the more than half a century history of cinema in Sri Lanka.
The story revolves round a blind father who does not believe that his son has died although the news of his death reached him and he awaits his return from the war.
The film won major awards including five SIGNIS film awards including Best Drector , four Sarasavi film awards including Best Picture International Critic's Award at Fribourg and Best Actor for Joe at Singapore.
