With a mother’s love she guided them all

~ Sheila Sarath Kumarihamy

A mother is precious to everyone. She is supposed to be the Lord Buddha whom we have seen in our lives. This is a belief in Buddhist homes. A mother’s love and affection is limitless. She came from Matale, bringing a sitar and serpina and a few clothes with her. She was none other than Sheila Sarath Kumarihamy.

She married Simeon Kalubowila and had four children.

Her eldest daughter, Chitra, is a well known announcer of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation and artiste. Nelum, the second, is also an announcer at the SLBC and an all round artiste.

The third is Lalith Kalubowila, a lyricist, radio and TV singer, artist as well as a muralist. The youngest Sangeeth Kalubowila is news director at Sirasa.

Mrs. Kalubowila had undergone many struggles in her life’s journey and faced them with great courage and perseverance. She achieved her dream of bringing her children into the limelight in the field of art.
Sheila was a Tower Hall artiste, a songstress and played many musical instruments.

A staunch Buddhist, she gave alms to the Bhikkhus of the temple and to the Sil Mathas. An animal lover, she looked after a number of dogs, cats and any animal that was homeless.

May all her good deeds be a perpetual blessing in life’s journey in Sansara.

May she attain Nirvana. With deepest love and respect.
