Independence Square being re-developed

 
Independence Square and its surroundings considered to be one of the most prestigious locations in Colombo are to be converted into an exclusive haven for cultural activities, recreation and academic and research excellence. “This would be like an academic zone” said the Director General of Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) Dr. Saman Kelagama.
 

Sweet problem for confectioners

Sri Lanka’s confectionery industry is facing a severe crisis at present as their products have to compete with cheap low quality imports of chocolate, toffee and biscuits.

 

Appeals to President, TRC from Lanka Internet

Lanka Internet Services Ltd (LISL), the now defunct Internet and telecommunications service provider which has come under fire from its clients, met President Mahinda Rajapaksa earlier this week to appeal for help. According to the Chairman of LISL Upali Keppetipola and former Executive Director and principal shareholder Senaka De Silva, the President has said he will do what he can.

 

GoldQuest parent, Questnet International in rugby sponsorship deal

The controversial multi level marketing (MLM) firm, GoldQuest's parent company, Questnet International Ltd (QI) has signed up with Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) for a Rs.50 million sponsorship, fuelling speculation that the company is determined to establish itself in the local social and economic fabric.
