"You think the only people who are people, are the people who look and think like you. But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger...
You'll learn things you never knew, you never knew."
This verse from the song 'Colours of the Wind' in 'Pocahontas,' is just one of the good advices given in the story.
The story is based on true fact and is all about the races of people, both in the misunderstanding that one wants to kill the other, due to the lack of communication.
So it was very lucky for all the students of Lyceum International School when Mrs. Odile Melder, Elocution teacher of LIS, decided to stage a musical named 'Pocahontas – The True Princess'.
For, after Mrs. Odile made the decision in January 2006, the next three months, for the participants, was the best thing that happened during the second term. (Well, actually the three months were the second term itself!)
It was really fun, all the auditioning and the planning. Mrs. Odile never disregarded students' say, in decisions.
While asking a participant, "What did you like most about the whole play?" she said, "Going on stage on the first night and knowing that you have two more show nights ahead of you and that you will do better next time. That feeling, it was the best part."
Another one said, "Practising was really fun!"
One of the participant's parents said, "At the beginning I was a bit reluctant to send my son for Pocahontas practices because of the lack of understanding, but when I saw the drama in action, I was so thrilled and amazed to see the children and how the teacher had organised it.
On the last day we planned a surprise for
Mrs. Odile and gave her presents and flowers because she was the person who had contributed most to the success of the show.
If you came to watch the show you would have seen what a success it was. And always remember the main advice in the story: "Communication is the best way to solve problems." |
