Kangaroos crash into lions party |

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, April 28, 2007 (AFP) - Adam Gilchrist lived up to his billing as the most dangerous batsman in the one-day game with a record 149 as Australia won an unprecendented third straight World Cup final on Saturday in a match which ended in complete farce. |

The nation can rest assured |
When these words are read, Sri Lankans will be awakening from a night of watching their cricketers do battle at the 2007 World Cup final. But as I write them from Barbados in the Caribbean, we are being put through our paces for the final hurdle.
It was an exhausting but equally exhilarating week. |

‘Pop’ goes the whistle |
The magic of Mahela the maverick kept us enthralled on Tuesday night with a knock that could have been described with all the plus words in anyone’s English vocabulary. For me it was his best knock in his long career so far – a well calculated, very professional and exceedingly mature innings. |

Mahela was brilliant |
Sri Lanka entered a World Cup final for a second time with a thoroughly professional performance in the semi final game against New Zealand. They outplayed their opponents in all departments of the game and were also the mentally tougher outfit.
It was New Zealand who struck first, sending back the master batsman Sanath Jayasuriya for a single run. |

Lions raring to take on the Aussies |
For most of the boys, being in the final of the World Cup is an unusual feeling. Memories of 1996 are obviously looming large, and I sense an element of absolute determination within the team. Every single player knows that the World Cup is not over yet, and though they are very excited at the prospect of playing in the final, there is no indication whatsoever that they are willing to rest on their laurels. |
