Mysterious aircraft spotted over reservoir

The sightings of a mysterious light aircraft flying in broad daylight over the Inginimitiya reservoir in the North Western Province, has terrorized the people living in the area in the wake of the recent LTTE air raids.

Witnesses informed the security forces that this aircraft had been flying at an altitude of about 300 metres between 9.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. on Friday. The Air Force had carried out a search operation using helicopters in and around the reservoir which is covered in thick forest.

The villagers at Inginimitiya were not happy with the attention given to this matter. They charged that the search operation carried out by the SLAF was not satisfactory. They claimed the Police turned up at the nearby Wada Kanda but did not venture anywhere beyond that point. Several Army officials had visited the area at night but it was not clear what they had been doing there.
