Dal on Top
Sri Lankan singing sensation Dalreen Suby was awarded 'Women on Top 2007' award on International Women's Day celebration in Sri Lanka.
International Women's Day gave Dalreen this ‘Woman on Top Award 2007’ as contribution to Sri Lanka in the Entertainment category. Five Sri Lankan women were awarded the trophy, and Dal was one of the five.
This year, as in previous years, several talented women were shortlisted for the award. Eventually, the Trustees of EQUAL GROUND chose the following women as award recipients for 2007.

3. Literature: Dr. Niloufer de Mel
4. Environment: Sunela Jayawardena
5. Films: Sangeetha Weeraratne
6. Dance: Deana Jayasuriya
2006 was a hectic year with many overseas tours she said. Dawned the year at 31st night dance in London, then Kuwait, Oman, New Zealand (Auckland and Wellington), Australia (Melbourne and Perth). Sinhala New Year celebrations in Melbourne, The Dark Tan revival show in Sydney with Alston Koch. Back again to Australia for the Ananda College Dance, and the Lions Club of Melbourne dance. Tour to Canada for the Sri Lanka day in Toronto, and shows in Vancouver and Calgary. Dawned 07 in Bombay India at the Taj Palace Hotel.
However in 2007 she decided to stay in Sri Lanka and do some shows here, she added.
Dal has been featured at the top concerts, the last being the Spitfire re-union of three shows. With many overseas tours coming her way Dal will spend sometime in the country. She intends finishing her new CD featuring some of her own compositions.
Dal said, she will be opening her music school as well. With 40 years in the music scene, and still in demand, she hopes to pass on her singing knowledge to singers who want voice training. Ages to start will be from five upwards. Having done a voice training course, she intends doing it the right way with special attention to students. She will have a limited number of students, so she can spend more time with each student. |
