Hoardings: CMC told to follow safety guidelines
The Supreme Court has ordered the Colombo Municipal Council to adhere to safety guidelines when granting permission to private companies to erect advertising hoardings.
The order came in the form of a Supreme Court interim relief following a petition filed by former Deputy Mayor Azath Sally.
The petitioner claimed that the council had done away with safety guidelines when permission was granted to private companies to erect hoardings. He said that as a result the hoardings were posing a danger to the public and vehicles.
The Supreme Court directed the CMC to entertain the applications for advertisement hoardings on the basis of the guidelines that are prevailing until October 2nd. |
