CRC and Ladies prove their might

Colombo Rowing Club (CRC) and Ladies College dominated the proceedings of 23rd National Rowing Championships which ended at the Beira Lake yesterday.
CRC won the senior men’s open Trophy and the intermediate trophy while Royal College took the junior men’s trophy.
In the women’s events Ladies College took the senior and the intermediate titles while Musaeus College won the junior title.
Musaeus set the bar in the very first final which was the women’s under 16 single sculls with a time of five minutes. Ladies College was 11 seconds behind and they were followed by the Colombo Rowing Club who finished with a time of 5.16.In the men’s under 16 pairs it was a Royal; one and two finish. Meanwhile Ananda College made their mark in the schoolboy sculler event with a first and third finish. The under 23 men’s single sculls event was dominated by Colombo Rowing Club. Their ‘A’ team crossed the line first with an impressive timing of 4.08. CRC’s ‘B’ team finished second in 4.33.
Musaeus College won the women’s under 19 pairs despite very stiff competition coming from two teams from Ladies College. The victors finished with a time of 4.59. The Men’s Open Single Sculls Event saw another one – two finish for Colombo Rowing Club. This time around their ‘B’ came in ahead of their ‘A’ team taking only three minutes and 54 second to cross the line. CRC’s ‘A’ team were four seconds behind.
As the afternoon wore CRC continued their dominance. They won men’s under 19 double scull with a time of 4.13. CRC’s ‘A’ team won the men’s open double sculls finishing in 3.39. The men’s under 19 single sculls event also went the way of CRC whose winning time was four minutes, while their under 23 double scull team eased to victory in a time of 3.56.
Musaeus continued their impressive early form. They won women’s under 19 single sculls in a time of 4.59. They followed that up with victories in the schoolgirl sculler and women’s open cox four with timings of 4.44 and 4.16 respectively.
Ananda won the men’s double sculls with a time of 4.01, while Ladies College ‘A’ emerged victorious in the women’s intermediate coxless pair with a time of 4.51 |
