Winning essays on health and hygiene secure Unilever PCs

Winners of the Germ Fighters Lifebuoy Essay Competition were recently presented with a state-of-the-art personal computer at the grand finale of this event, held to coincide with International Children's Day.

The competition, an extension of the Unilever campaign to enhance awareness amongst school children on how they can meaningfully contribute towards keeping their schools and environment clean, was conducted in English, Sinhala and Tamil amongst all schools in the island and was open to children between the ages of 6-12 years.

The 30 best winning essays were selected from among a total of over 5000 entries and were evaluated by a judging panel comprising eminent school teachers from leading schools in Colombo.

The Lifebuoy's Germ Fighters campaign targets school children between the ages of 6-12 years who are educated on the benefits of health and hygiene through interactive programmes carried out at their schools.

The programme which was re-launched last year as "Germ Fighters", has covered over 60 schools in the Uva and Sabaragamuwa Provinces during the past year alone.
