Muslim Aid and Cargills Team up for “Water for Life”

Muslim Aid Sri Lanka, an international NGO, and Cargills have entered into a partnership to supply disadvantaged schools with clean water and sanitation, the NGO group said. For its Ramadan theme this year, Muslim Aid chose “Water for Life” aimed at providing clean water and sanitation to the rural poor in six selected districts in the island. Cargills, through its One Trust project, will assist Al Tarique Muslim Vidyalaya in Peralu, Kantale.

One Trust is a CSR initiative launched by Cargills in December 2004 for children affected by the tsunami. One Trust now focuses on empowering the children of Sri Lanka, especially through helping in their education. Cargills will support “Water for Life’ by donating 10 percent of the sales of special Eid Gift Packs sold at its supermarket outlets.

“One Trust wanted to support disadvantaged schools and Muslim Aid also wants to do the same, so it was a mutually beneficial partnership,” said Muslim Aid Sri Lanka Country Director Amjad Saleem.

Muslim Aid and Cargills also collaborated in providing dry ration packs to widows, orphans and disadvantaged people across Sri Lanka during Ramadan this year. The packs contained enough tea, rice, dhal, sugar, dates and spices for a family of five for one week.
