Poems of everyday things

The Alliance Francaise de Kandy will present ‘Poems to Ponder- An Evening of Poetry’ by Asoka Palliyaguruge, on October 19 at 6.30 p.m.Fifteen poems by Ms. Palliyaguruge will be presented by her students of Gateway College, Kandy followed by musical interludes on the piano played by Thisaranie Ratnayake and introduced by Maduni Madanayake.

Ms Palliyaguruge’s first anthology of poems ‘The Bower Bird and Other Poems’ was released earlier. Emeritus Professor of English Ashley Halpe commenting on this work said “Many poems capture the pain, pathos and comforts of everyday experiences, others give glimpses of much-loved landscapes, some are thumbnail morality sketches. All in all, she achieves a generous human presence.”
