Muslim school in poor state

A more than 50 year-old Muslim school in the Katugastota education circuit is said to be lacking in basic facilities and going from bad to worse.
There are 149 students in Palkumbura Muslim Vidyalaya which is classed as a remote school of which nearly 50 per cent are Tamil students.
According to the principal A W Abuthalib the school was started in 1957 with two buildings which were not partitioned. This caused difficulties to teachers conducting different classes.
He said that though the school had stood for 50 years, even basic facilities were not found here. There was no science lab or library and sports items were not available.
Electricity was supplied only to the office and in an age where other students enjoyed internet facilities these unfortunate children lack basic facilities, he said. |
