Road in honour of top Army general
The Kandy-Lewella Road was re-named the Parami Kulatunge Road to honour Lt. Gen. Parami Kulatunge who was killed by an LTTE suicide bomber in June last year.
There was a unanimous agreement among Kandy Municipal Council members to re-name the road after the late Lieutenant General on a proposal of MMC Lalantha Sanjeewa Peries which was seconded by MMC Ilahi Abdeen. A monument of the late Army officer commissioned by his family members was also unveiled at the Lewella junction.
Among those present on the occasion were B.L.Maheepala, the Honorary Consul for Madagascar in Sri Lanka, Acting Kandy Mayor Suminda Wickremasinghe, members of the late officer’s family, Army personnel and the Trinity College principal and students. |
