Dayan makes his mark at TMI

Dayan D.L Fernando is a Management Consultant and a Trainer who joined the Toastmasters movement just 3 years ago and has already made his mark in the communication field.

Within the short period Dayan has been awarded the Competent Communicator and Advanced Communicator (ACB) award by Toastmasters International (TMI). He is also the immediate past President of Serendib Toastmasters club. He states that the most treasured and proudest moment is his Toastmastering career is that when he was the Sri Lankan flag bearer at the inauguration ceremony of the TMI Convention in Arizona USA 2007. He says “It was like taking part in the Olympics”

Regarding, the winning of the Humorous speech competition Dayan says “I am very happy since this was the first Toastmasters competition I took part and winning it feels great”. He says that giving a humorous speech is the most difficult type of speech for anyone as the audience consists of many people of different ages and tastes. So to make people laugh with professional and clean humor is the most difficult. “I was able to do this as I customized my speech to the particular audience and also what I said was original”. He hopes to keep the Sri Lankan flag flying high when he represents the country against our big brother India at the Mangalore conference in November. It was at the International convention in Arizona where he was able to attract the attention of all participants of many countries with his great rendition of “Danno Budunge” Dayan’s greatest hobby is singing which he does with great passion and is sought after by many to sing at different functions. Dayan says that Toastmastering has helped him bring out the leadership qualities and communication strengths to great levels and in turn he can help and mentor his trainees with greater conviction. Dayan wants people around him to be happy and he feels that if you are a good communicator it’s easier to make them understand you and also make them happy.

Dayan holds an MBA, and is a fully qualified Marketer and a HR specialist. He is a former Head Prefect and the Victoria Gold Medalist of S.Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia. Before getting into the field of consulting and training he was working as the General Manager of Confifi Hotel Supplies Ltd.
