Oxbridge join hands

Oxford Society and Cambridge Society of Sri Lanka would host a dinner on November 29 to Anne Lonsdale, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Cambridge.

Ms. Lonsdale who will be on a short visit to Sri Lanka, would be present at the dinner with British High Commissioner Dominick Chilcott who is the vice patron of the Oxford Society and Mrs. Chilcott, also an Oxonian. Ms. Lonsdale’s career began at Oxford where she studied and taught classical Chinese literature before becoming a university administrator and, in 1990, the first Director of External Relations the university had appointed.

She has been Deputy Vice-Chancellor in the University of Cambridge since October 2003. Prior to this she was Pro-Vice-Chancellor for External Relations since July 1998, and a member of the University’s Council. She has developed a major interest in environmental research and has been Chairman of the University’s Committee for Interdisciplinary Environmental Studies.

Ms. Lonsdale is also President of New Hall, the college of which both Manel Abeyesekera, President of the Oxford Society and Dr Shanthi Wilson, President of the Cambridge Society, are Members. Oxbridge alumni interested in attending the event may contact the Secretaries of the respective Societies with regard to dinner reservations for themselves and their guests
