Spirit of laughter for the season
“Tommiya” is getting ready to celebrate Christmas as Indu Dharmasena’s hilarious comedy “Madai Tommiya Naththal Kava” goes on the boards at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on December 7, 8 & 9 at 7.30 p.m.
The play revolves around hairdresser cum dress designer, Andana Silva and Colombo society getting ready for Christmas. Of course, the hapless Tommy gets caught in the middle of all the pandemonium.
Monica rushes to Andana’s hairdressing beauty salon when she hears the kind and gentle Andana is trying to teach English and make a country bumpkin fashionable. She meets Tommy and discovers that Andana is planning a fancy dress party for Christmas. Andana and his assistant, Tania, invite Monica to be on the organizing committee. They decide to have the party as a fund raiser for Monica’s husband Shelton’s Lions club since that is the only way to persuade him to let her get involved with the party.
They consult Eros, an experienced Event Producer and are all set to organize the most happening party for the season. But then…How does the fancy dress party turn into a drag party? And why does Shelton, Monica’s overly possessive and jealous husband, want to catch and castrate the funny and loveable Tommy?
The vivacious Koluu plays the lively Monica, Abbasali Rozais plays the hair dresser cum dress designer Andana Silva, and of course Indu plays Tommy.
Andana’s practical and no nonsense assistant Tania is played by Sanwada. Primali, a Colombo 7 socialite is played by Neidra Williams, while Roma, the globe-trotting wife of a minister is played by Priyanka Holsinger. The self-acclaimed event producer Eros is played by Danu. Jehan Bastians shows his versatility as an actor by playing Shelton, the aggressive and jealous husband. Chithranga Kariyawasan plays Lucy the Dubai returnee. A guest at the party Lal alias Lolita is brought to life by Harendra, and Nihal another guest whose looking for a good time is played by Javin Thomas.
The show on the 7th is in aid of Multiple Sclerosis and the production on the 8th is presented by the St. Peter’s College Welfare Society.
Don’t miss this hilarious comedy that is guaranteed to keep you in fits of laughter. Tickets will be available at the Wendt from Monday the 26th. Parking is at Maitland Crescent and a shuttle service is available to and from the Wendt. |
