Govt. wants UNICEF employees to leave
With both the UNICEF and the Government apparently dragging their feet over separate investigations relating to recent incidents, the government has hardened its stand on the issue of four UN employees taking part in a public demonstration in June and is insisting that all four must leave the country.
When pointed out that UNICEF was investigating into the incident, a top foreign ministry official said yesterday that “there is nothing to investigate as there is photographic evidence.“The case is closed,” he said.
Meanwhile, government sources said that contrary to reports that two of the four UNICEF employees had left, only one had left the country. The other, who had quit his UNICEF job, is yet in the country, according to these sources.
UNICEF spokesman Gordon Weiss said they hoped to wrap up the probe into the employees’ conduct by the end of this month.
